Description
The Airwrap™ Origin HS05 — the entry-level Airwrap, cut back to the three attachments most people actually use
The Airwrap Origin is the simplest way into the manufacturer’s air-styling system. Same handset, same motor, same Coanda airflow as the full Airwrap — but supplied with three attachments instead of six or eight, and priced accordingly. If you have been circling an Airwrap and could not justify the full kit, this is the version that makes sense: you get the technology and the three tools that cover everyday drying, smoothing and curling, and you skip the attachments that spend their life in a drawer. Dry. Curl. Shape. And no hot plates touching your hair at any point.
What means in practice
The Chinese term translates roughly as “entry-level, reduced configuration” — a simplified kit, not a simplified machine. Nothing about the airflow, the motor or the styling method is downgraded. What changes is the contents of the box: three attachments, chosen to cover the basics, rather than the full attachment suite of the standard Airwrap. For a first Airwrap that is usually the right trade. The three tools here handle rough-drying, smoothing and curling; the extra barrels, brushes and cases in the full kit are refinements for people who already know which attachment they reach for.
Why it styles with air instead of heat
The Coanda effect does the wrapping
Coanda airflow is the physical principle that a fast-moving jet of air will follow a curved surface instead of continuing in a straight line. The manufacturer turns that into a styling tool: air is accelerated out of the barrel and bends around it, and hair in the stream is drawn to the surface and wrapped around the barrel by itself. You are not winding sections around a hot cylinder — the airflow does the winding, in both directions, so a curl can be set clockwise or counter-clockwise from the same barrel.
Heat is for shaping, not for setting
Because the hair is held in place by air rather than by tension around a hot barrel, the temperature can stay far lower than a curling iron or flat iron needs. The manufacturer’s claim is styling with no heat damage; the mechanism behind it is that the style is formed by airflow and then fixed with a cool shot, so the cuticle is not baked into shape. Treat the claim as the manufacturer’s, and treat cool-shot finishing as the step that makes it hold.
The Digital Motor V9
Everything above depends on airflow volume and speed, which is why the motor matters more here than the heater. The V9 spins at up to 110,000rpm and moves 13.5 litres of air per second through the attachments. That is what generates enough Coanda force to lift and wrap a section of hair without any mechanical assistance.
The three attachments
1.6″ Airwrap™ long barrel
Enhanced Coanda airflow attracts and self-wraps hair in both directions for voluminous curls or waves. At 1.6 inches it suits medium to long hair and produces a loose, brushed-out wave rather than a tight ringlet — the kind of curl that survives being slept on.
Anti-snag loop brush
Automatically redirects airflow, projecting air in the same direction as you brush your hair. The loop bristles let hair pass through instead of catching on them, so you can shape and smooth without the tug that makes people give up on round brushes.
Fast dryer
Powerful airflow quickly rough-dries hair in preparation for styling. Use it to take soaking wet hair to damp, then switch to the barrel or the brush — the barrels work best on damp hair, not dripping hair.

Who it suits
- First-time Airwrap buyers — the full attachment suite is a lot to pay for before you know whether the airflow method suits your hair. Three attachments is enough to find out.
- Medium to long hair — the 1.6″ barrel is sized for length. Very short hair gets more from the brush and the dryer.
- Anyone who blow-dries and then curls — the Fast dryer and the barrel replace both steps with one tool and one hand position.
- Hair that has suffered from heat — if flat irons have left your ends thin and brittle, styling on airflow rather than contact heat is the change worth making.
- Travel and small bathrooms — one handset and three clip-on heads take less space than a dryer plus a curling iron plus a round brush.
Frequently asked questions
Does my hair have to be wet to start styling?
Yes, for best results. Start with freshly washed hair. All the brushes can be used on wet hair, but the barrels work best on damp hair — use the Fast dryer to take hair to damp before styling with the barrel.
Can I use the Fast dryer on any hair type?
Yes. The Fast dryer can be used on any hair type, both to pre-dry hair and to set a finished style.
How is this different from the standard Airwrap?
The handset and the airflow technology are the same. The Origin is the entry-level device, simplified with three attachments; the standard Airwrap ships with a larger attachment suite for more styles and hair types. If you want multiple barrel sizes or the Coanda smoothing dryer, the full kit is the one to buy.
Can I add attachments later?
Yes. Airwrap attachments are interchangeable across the range, so barrels, brushes and dryer heads can be bought separately and clipped onto this handset as your routine settles.
Will it work in other countries?
No. This is the 120V version, engineered for the voltage of the country it was sold in. A voltage converter is not a substitute — the motor is calibrated to the supply it was built for.
How do I clean it?
Wipe the filter mesh at the base of the handle with a soft dry cloth about once a month, and clear any hair from the attachment inlets. A blocked filter is the usual cause of a machine that seems to lose power.

Footnotes
Styling and performance claims, specifications and the aggregate rating are as published by the manufacturer on the Airwrap™ Origin product page, retrieved 17 October 2026. “No heat damage” is the manufacturer’s claim for styling with airflow rather than contact heat. Voltage and plug type are North American; check compatibility before ordering from outside that region.
