Description
The Supersonic r™, rebuilt for a full day behind the chair
The manufacturer designed this one by testing in salons rather than bathrooms. The result is the same 1,700W dryer your clients recognise, with the three things a working stylist actually notices: a longer cable, a body that does not tire your wrist by the fourth blow-dry, and a filter you can swap in seconds instead of sending the machine away. It is the manufacturer’s most powerful hair dryer,1 and its lightest.2 Everything below is about what that means when you are booked back-to-back.
What the professional edition adds
A 12.5 ft cord — reach without moving your station
The consumer model’s cable stops short of what a salon layout needs. This one runs 12.5 ft, so you can walk the chair, work the back of the head from either side, and style from an angle that suits the client rather than the socket. It is the main reason the manufacturer points stylists to this model over the consumer one.
A spare inner filter — no downtime
Filters clog. In a salon they clog fast. The r™ Professional ships with a second inner filter, so when the yellow LED on the handle starts flashing you swap it and keep working, rather than finishing the day on reduced airflow and ordering a replacement.
325 g body — the weight lives in the plug
The manufacturer moved the electronics out of the handle and into a re-engineered plug. The body you hold is 30% smaller and 20% lighter than the Supersonic™ range,2 at 325 g. The weight is still in the cable, just not in your hand — which is what stops the ache that builds up over a full column.
Why it dries faster
Streamlined Flow heater — ten foils in the curve
The heater is no longer a ring sitting behind the head. Ten heater foils are set into the curve itself, so the air is heated as it turns. That gives you a more even, streamlined airflow — the difference between a blow-dry that takes one pass and one that takes three.
Hyperdymium™ motor — 110,000 rpm
The motor spins at up to 110,000 rpm, forming a jet of controlled air rather than a wide, weak blast. That control is what lets you dry a section quickly without pushing the cuticle around, so the finish stays smooth and the shine stays where it should be.
Up to 46% less frizz00
Negatively charged ions neutralise the static that lifts flyaways, reducing frizz by up to 46% compared with air drying.00 Heat is controlled rather than simply applied, which is why the manufacturer can claim no heat damage — the cuticle is not being cooked to get the water out.
Five intelligent attachments
Every attachment carries an RFID chip. Clip one on and the dryer reads it and drops into that attachment’s own temperature and airflow range — three speed options within each preset, plus a cold shot as a fourth temperature. No dialling settings in between clients.
- Professional concentrator — focuses air precisely where you need it, for section work and smooth finishes.
- Powerful air attachment — high-velocity airflow for fast, rough drying.
- Wide-tooth comb — de-tangles and lengthens as it dries, for afro and coily textures.
- Diffuser — spreads airflow to define curls, coils and waves without disturbing the pattern.
- Gentle air attachment — diffuses and smooths the airstream so it is kinder on a sensitive scalp.

Who it suits
- Salon stylists — the cord length and spare filter are the whole point. This is the model the manufacturer recommends for chair work.
- Mobile and session stylists — 325 g and a compact body travel better than any full-size dryer, and the cold shot sets a style before you pack up.
- Anyone with a heavy booking book — if your wrist is the limiting factor by mid-afternoon, the weight distribution is the upgrade you will feel first.
Frequently asked questions
Should I buy this or the standard Supersonic r™?
If the dryer lives in a salon, buy this one. The 12.5 ft cable gives you the reach a station layout needs, and the spare inner filter keeps you running through a busy week. For home use, the consumer model is the better fit — the manufacturer recommends it for non-professionals.
How do I know when to clean the filter?
The dryer tells you. A yellow LED flashes on the handle, just above the filter, when it needs attention. Swap in the spare filter and keep working.
What is the warranty?
Two years.
Can I use it in other countries?
No. This is a 120V machine, engineered for the voltage of the country it was sold in. The manufacturer recommends using it only where you bought it. If you need a travel dryer, the Supersonic Travel is the model built for that.
Is it suitable for all hair types?
Yes. The five attachments cover straight, wavy, curly and coily textures, and each one sets its own heat and airflow range so you are not guessing settings for a hair type you do not work with often.
Does it come with a case?
No. The professional edition ships with a spare inner filter instead of the presentation case that comes with the consumer Supersonic r™.
What 991 owners say
4.6 out of 5 from 991 ratings, with 78% of reviewers saying they would recommend it to a friend.
“When receiving my new Supersonic r, I was extremely surprised by its innovative shape. At first I thought it would be a pain to relearn how to hold this new shape but in reality, my body loved how ergonomic this was for my arms/wrists! The buttons are in the perfect places and I can get super close to the root and still see what I’m doing. The power is incredible as well. And the smart attachments and inSANE! My favorite one is the comb attachment by far.” — Francesca Did It, reviewed on 22 April 2024
